Artist’s Statement

I have been painting in watercolours since the early eighties. I am delighted to paint with transparent watercolours because they give me the ability to paint soft edges and use vibrant colours. I am both inspired and fascinated by nature’s fragile beauty. I find the beauty of creation reflected in water reflections, whether it is the reflection in a lake so calm everything is a mirror image or in a broken ripple that might be caused by the wind, the current, a fish or a child throwing a stone. I like to use brilliant colours. They allow me to delve into nature’s strength and fragility. I want to invite everyone to walk into the scene, to experience and connect with the mood and the loveliness of the place. I expect that each time you spend time with the painting you will find or experience things you did not see or experience the last time. I hope that you are surprised by what you see and enjoy the feelings that the beauty of creation invokes in you.
