Artist’s Statement

My Italian series records atmospheres, environments and attitudes. This travel experience left me with impressions of the beauty of the Italian geography and the cultural importance of its historic legacy.
I have been using an abstract expressionist style to represent the identification and resolution of personal themes that have universal meaning. After carefully thinking about the interrelationships of symbols, shapes, and colours, I work rapidly in either oil, watercolour, or acrylic, surprising myself as the pieces emerge suddenly in their final state.
